Which is Best – Dry or Canned Foods?

When thinking about what kind of food to feed a pet dog, a big question is always “Dry vs Canned”. Many people today, and in the past too, have had problems with this question. So what should a pet owner use?

Should pet owners feed their dog dry or canned food? Many say dry but some say canned, so what is a pet owner to do? First of all, speak to a veterinarian. Both food types have pros but their are cons for both as well.

Here are the 3 good reasons why canned foods can be a better dog food choice than dry.

1. Protein levels are higher in canned foods – usually this is the second highest  ingredient next to water – and well above any amount of carbohydrates.

Why is this good?

Because there is a much lower possibility of contracting diseases such as Diabetes, Obesity, and Pancreatitis.

2. Moisture Content is much higher than for dry foods and caned foods are also much  more like what our dogs would eat if they were forced to living “in the wild”.

3. Digestion, overall, is much easier for pets eating canned foods because this type of food is  easier to breakdown as it passes through the dogs stomach and intestinal tract possibly resulting in less vomiting, and gas.

And why do many still feed dry dog foods to their pets?

Reason number one for most families: convenience.

Dry dog foods are very convenient. There are no smelly cans involved, no dog food cans in the trash to tempt your pets, and no need to recycle.

So, what to do? Speak to your veterinarian and keep your dogs overall health in mind while you consider – whether to make the switch to canned foods from dry kibble.
